Journal - Day 3 of the Trek
Day 3 Today we moved from Horse Canyon to Lake Valley Schoolhouse. For the support team, we received a small tour of the restored schoolhouse in the historic mining town of Lake Valley. The location is very picturesque. The drive here brought us by some new vegetation including thistles. We also observed some tarantulas crossing the road leading to the valley.
The town is restored from its former glory as a silver mining town. It's population peaked in the low thousands. The last residents left in 1991. The old mines are still present as are the assay station and other mining fixtures.
Dinner took place in the restored schoolhouse and consisted of "Green Chili Cheeseburgers," a spicy addition to the old standby. The weather today provided much variation with several intermittent showers mixed with bright sunshine.
Tonight will be spent in the Schoolhouse. It should be splendid.
