 The Trek: The Journals

I am sorry for not being able to email a journal entry sooner. My life has been a whirlwind. So, right now, I am sitting with my cowboy boots on getting ready for the horseback riding on Wednesday, on the edge of the Emery Bay writing to all of you. So, just to give you a glimpse of what has been going on what will try to tell you.

After leaving Utah, we (the trekkers and support staff) drove to Glacier National Park. There was a caravan of 7 vehicles which included: 2 Honda Pilots, 1 Honda CRV, 2 big disel
trucks pulling trailers, a RV, and a Grand Jeep Cherokee. We all had walkie Talkies and kept
each other quite amused for the 850 mile trip.
July 31, we had a satelite video feed to the White House talking to Gale Norton (the Secretary
of the Interior). Then we headed off the Canada Border for the offical start.
It was so long awaited. We were all so excited, stressed and scared. I don't think until that
moment, what I was about to embark on. I almost cried.
So, we started on our 28 mile trip through the Belly River, going into pristine bear country.
Our guide Chris, constantly kept yelling "Yo Boo!"
I think that I forgot to mention that my pack weighed 35 very heavy pounds. Besides that,
everything we have been seeing is so beauiful. The wildflowers are amazing, and I keep hearing
that the park never gets this many wildflowers except every 7 years. We are so lucky.
Yesterday (Sunday) was our harderst and more memorable day so far. We have now entered the
Flathead National Forest. We were led by the District Ranger of the National Forest. The goal was
to hike over a peak and into camp. We hiked straight up for 4.5 miles to the Ousel Peak. (7,157 ft)
When we got to the top of the peak, the trail disappeared. We had a map, but all around us
we rock faced walls. We were too far to go back, and thought we had plenty of time to find our
way to camp. Rob (the fireman), decided to take control and look ahead and try to find the trial.
We all ended up traversing the sides of mountains for about 3 hours. There is a picture of me climbing. It was such a long day. I overturned my ankle, I boots were wet and I ran out of water.
But we got to camp had a good dinner and slept really good.

This trek so amazing. I can't believe I am doing this. We are all ordinary people, doing something
really extraordinary.
