Silver City, Here We Come!
Tonight we are in a motel in Silver City. Hot Showers!! And they have a laundry so we will have clean clothes, too. What a treat. And we will be going out to dinner tonight, too. I hear that a trip to a local steak house is planned. More on that later.

Yesterday was a little scary. Bob and Ron tried to find the backpackers (the 4 trekkers plus 4 of the support team that had joined them), and for a while the backpackers had “lost the trail”. I put that in quotes, because they knew where they were with the GPS (Global Positioning Systems, using the satellites to pinpoint their location), and they were where the trail was supposed to be as marked on the map, but the trail was simply not there. Evidently the trail started off as a nice, wide, well-marked Forest Service Trail, but through lack of use had became overgrown once the hikers pushed further on.

But the group was ever-resourceful, and they managed to finally get with Bob and the water supply. Bob had to bring Cathy out and take her to the emergency room as she had gotten a stick stuck in her lower leg. Nothing serious, but puncture wounds can get serious quickly, so she got it all cleaned out and got an early start on the motel stay in the wee hours of the morning. She met us at the motel with cookies, her sunny smile (she is always such an upbeat person), and a poster welcoming us to the motel! Her wound is bandaged, but she is getting around well and she will be just fine.

This motel has a pool and a hot tub, but I just wanted a shower. Pool and spa will have to wait. Then we went to a really good Mexican Restaurant with the trek originator, Stephen Mauer, and had wonderful food. The other highlight of the day was that I got to phone my dear husband Jerry and talk to him, my sons Chris and Patrick, and then I called by parents in Vancouver Washington, too. So nice to talk to my loved ones.

I just finished reading Jan Nesset's and Cathy Kiffe's journal articles. Be sure to read them and theother team membe's journals, they are wonderful. More entries will be up for the south team as we get them online.

Jan is an outdoor writer and his way with prose is inspiring. He is also one of the cleverest and funniest guys I have ever met, with the possible exception of my husband. He keeps me laughing, and my spirits up. We are so lucky to have such a great team with such wonderful people on it.
Have to sleep now. A busy day tomorrow. Stay tuned.
