Answer to your questions
I would like to take the time now to answer some of the questions I have been receiving while here on the trek. I would also like to add that I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the mail I have gotten thus far and hope that it continues.

Question: How are you feeling?
Charlotte: Health wise, I am doing fine. I have a few bruises on my legs (I think from the horse), lost my fingernail, so its in a band-aid and my lips are sunburned, simply because I am too lazy to put chap stick on when I need it. No broken bones….

Question: Why aren’t you writing in your journal very often?
Charlotte: As you may have realized, we are in the middle of nowhere and sometimes its very hard for the Trek Team to have access to computers. Plus, we (Trek Team) just returned from 8 days in the Bob Marshall Wilderness where the closest road was 50 miles by horse.

Question: Are you sore from the horseback riding?
Charlotte: No. I actually learned how to stretch my legs while sitting in the saddle which helped a lot. We walked the horse on steep terrain, which was also great for lessening the pain. I was the only Trekker that did not wear biker shorts under my Wrangler Jeans. I mentioned that everyday, when someone was complaining of pain.

Question: What has been your favorite day?
Charlotte: Well… I have two favorite days. One was in Glacier National Park, where we climbed out of Elizabeth Lake up to Ptarmigan Tunnel. When we left, all the clouds were closed in around us and as we climbed higher the clouds lifted with us. As Rob said “This is so mystical.” And it really was. It was a long climb, and we were all hungry because we didn’t pack enough food, so we kept asking people along the trail for extra food. A fellow hiker gave us a Snickers bar and a Reeses’ cup. We split both of them in six equal parts. We actually ended up with more food than we could eat.
The other favorite day was in the Bob Marshall Wilderness with our horse guide, Jack Rich. It was our 3rd day in the Bob, and we were given a day off. I thought that I wanted to sleep all day, but I ended up going fishing with the boys. Each Trekker was given a fishing pole and I couldn’t figure out how to cast it correctly. Jack gave me his fly rod and taught me how to fly fish. I ended up catching 10 fishing but not any to keep. Plus, I didn’t really want to kill the fish. Rob, Mike and Wayne (the National Geographic videographer) ended up with 9 fish for all of us to eat for dinner. Later that night, the sky was so clear; you could see a million stars. So, Rob and I pulled our sleeping bags out and slept out under the stars. It was a great day.

Question: Is this journey harder than the cross country bike ride you did two year ago?
Charlotte: Hard to tell. They have a lot the same elements, but I think I am pushing myself a little harder on this trip than I did 2 years ago. Neither is easy, but I don’t think I will really know until this is over.

Question: What are you eating?
Charlotte: I have not had a big appetite since I have been here so, I am not eating much, but everyone else has had: steak, pizza, pancakes, fajitas, jambalaya, stews and much more. I have been craving candy….

Question: Are you glad you resigned for your job to do this?
Charlotte: Absolutely.

Question: Are you homesick?
Charlotte: I get a little teary-eyed when I read an email from my mom. I love you, Mom.

Question: Taken any good pictures?
Charlotte: Tons! It’s really hard to take a bad picture when the scenery is this awesome.

Question: How was the “Bob”?
Charlotte: I really didn’t know much about the Bob Marshall Wilderness until I got here. Its over a million acres of designated Wilderness for the Public to use. It was too big to comprehend. It was so awesome. We only saw people the first 3 days we were there then we never saw another soul.

Question: What wildlife have you seen?
Charlotte: Elk, bear, grouse, ptarmigan, squirrel, toads, fish, deer and probably others that I can’t think of now.

Question: Are you gaining or losing more elevation?
Charlotte: Both. We have been going over the Divide Trail, which takes us over many mountain passes and through valleys, so both.
I think our current elevation as I write this is: 6,100 ft.

I think that is all of the questions people have asked, or I can remember. Continue to email and I will answer when I have access to write and I will try to send pictures when I can. I hope all is well with everyone.
