It's morning, the fog is burning off, and the tents are slowly drying. The storm last night was pretty spectacular. We are at Whitehouse Campground on a developed site, complete with pit toilets and a nearby stream. Yesterday I got in a full hour of yoga before our team leaders returned. Yoga sounds like a terrific idea when you are in the wilderness- sun on your face, grass beneath your feet, forest sounds filling the air- but it's really more dangerous than you would think. I've hurt my toes a few times jumping back to the plank position, landing on a rock or two, and cut my fingers on grounded twigs while stretching into downward dog. I've learned to seek out level ground, but even with the tarp, hidden dangers lurk beneath my toes. It's worth it, though. Partucularly when there is no time for a hike.

Charlie finally returned, and we set off for the town of Helena. A good day was planned. Showers- a miracle, since we got to bathe two days ago- and better yet, lunch. Lunch in an actual restaurant. Lunch under a roof, with four walls, and smiling people to ask us what we wanted and to bring us hot food and to wash our dishes. We went to the MacKenzie River Pizza restaurant, where the nicest and cutest group of twenty-somethings took terrific care of us. And the food was delicious. I got a pizza with a zillion vegetables and, joy of joys, soy pepperoni. And pesto breaksticks and a big fat green salad. Awww yeah. And then to Crossroads Heath Club for showers and hot tub and sauna. I'm hoping the trek team doesn't read this. They were on a thirteen-mile horse ride, eating sandwiches and Fritos on the trail. Not only that, but our first storm of the trip decided to find us just as the support team pulled into the campground. Which meant that the trek team was caught in the rain.

We got the canopies up just in time for the first downpour. It was incredible- the lightning and thunder crashing around us, the rain lashing the top of the canopy, and all of us huddled inside. I jumped over to the neighboring canopy and found a reporter who had joined us just before the storm. We stood on top of a picnic table to avoid the rain as she asked me questions about the trek. The roughest part of the storm passed in less than half an hour, but we were in for a wet, drizzly night. About an hour later, the trekkers called in on the sat phone, ready to be picked up at their latest spot. They rolled in cold and wet, ready for a hot meal and a hopefully early night. Dinner was tacos around the fire, and some of the team had time to get online before turning in for the night. I was on K.P., so I got to the tech trailer late, just in time for the next wave of the electrical storm to move in. When I went back to my tent, it was in a huge puddle, by my groundcloth saved me and I had a dry and warm but short night of sleep.

The support team had to be up a 5:30 AM to get the trekkers off at 7. They have a long, rough day today, hiking, four-wheeling, and bushwacking their way across public land. We had pancakes and coffee ready before 6 and lunches made and packed by 7. Charlie and Dave are again off with the trekkers, driving the four-wheelers and making sure the path is true; the support team is here at camp, journaling and reading and waiting for the sky to clear.

My new best friend Gen Green just gave me a terrific organic peach. That is how she became my new best friend. She joined us three days ago as our latest techie volunteer, replacing Damon who has to go back to his real life. He's been incredibly helpful and knowledgeable and we're sad to see him go. Hopefully he, and many of the other techies, will be able to make it to the joining ceremony on the 27th of September.

Wow. That's a long way off. Ah, me... I best get back to work.
