Saturday, August 24
I think for the first time, we had an easy hike. We left from some random campsite to get to Salmon fly. I woke up at 6:20am only because Dana kept shuffling things right outside my tent and I couldnít get back to sleep. I think that I have mentioned this before; I am not the best in the morning. It takes me awhile to get fully awake and ready for the day. Today was no different. I was packing my things while the other 3 team members were looking over the map, figuring out where the route was and making the plan for the day. By the time I was done with all my personal things and had eaten breakfast, I missed all the planning and was still running to get into the Honda not be left behind.

Today felt like a normal Saturday. Normal as in something I would do on a regular basis. We went hiking. To be honest, I am a little tired. The majority of the mileage was done in 4x4 wheel drive cars, but we hiked a lot. No trails, just plain bushwhacking. All day morning long. I am not complaining, it was really fun. We saw wildlife. Cow Elk, a herd of antelope, grouse, and a ptarmigan. We had a highway crossing to do and as we jumped the fence, Rob woke up a rattlesnake. I was so scared. I was probably 4 feet away. But I made it. But now the worse thing is that the 3 other team members make fun of me.

After all the excitement of the rattlesnake, we have to hike down to cross a river and Rob, again, startles a bee hive and he starts running up the hill. At that point we realize we have to navigate another way across the river. It took longer but again we made it.

It was really hot today. Today was the first time I have worn shorts since being here. I canít imagine what the South team is going through.

We got into camp around 1:30pm, and we just played around all afternoon. Dana went swimming, Mike wrote in his journal, Rob surfed the net and I downloaded pictures from the digital cameras and looked at all the points we took on the GPS units. Really a relaxing Saturday afternoon.

Finally, tomorrow we are on ATVs.

Hope all is well. (Thinking about you, Van Stickles)
We will proceed on.
