Birthday! Day 28.

My day started out with be serenaded by my fellow trekker “Happy Birthday” and presented me with a birthday card made up on the computer and signed by the entire North “Team”.

I’ve been looking forward to today; we had a lot of miles to cover on the ATVs and crossing the Clark Canyon Reservoir in a 30 foot dugout canoe which is a replica of a similar canoe Lewis and Clark would have used.

We paddled the dugout Ponderosa Pine nearly 2 miles. It took 4 trekkers and Steve Morehouse to paddle across the calm waters Steve explained to us that is took 100 hours to build and only hand tools were used.

The ATVs were trailored to the other side where we were to ride over 80 miles into camp. Several Park Rangers met us and we were on our way. Along the way we had a few points were we had to get off the ATVs and walk around private land. Other than that, we were having so much fun.

I tried to keep up with Brad who was leading the way. I enjoy pushing myself and seeing what these Honda’s can “do” and they do just fine.
We had to refuel twice along the way which was done my fuel cache and Support team meeting us.

The route was up and over many ridges. Thunder and lightning was heard and seen off in the distance but we made it without harm. We did follow a pretty good hailstorm though.

The final road into camp was all out. Brad and I enjoyed the trip to the end. I’ve never been off-roading, since I was a kid.

Support dinner cooked a wonderful dinner and even had birthday cake for me too! It was nice for them to go out of their way and I would like to thank all of them again. Thanks.
