A hike, a bike, and web frustrations
I got up this morning very early (5am) and went to see the sunrise over the Grand Canyon with National Geographic Project Manager Nancee Hunter. What a view! It did my soul good to see such beauty from our Creator’s hand. Got back to camp just in time to see Kay head out to finish the last 14 miles of the trek from Thursday. That section was mountain biked by Jan, Richard, Julie, and Jake as an alternate, but Cathy could not finish. So Kay kept the integrity of the teachers’ journey intact. Hooray for Kay!
But she was late coming in, so I had to break away from web-picture work and take the truck to go find her. Traveling on dirt roads is tricky, and one of the 2 motorbikes that was lashed in the back came loose, and began banging around, beating up one of the mountain bikes in there, but I think (I hope!) they are okay.
We are trying to get as much webwork done as possible in the few short hours that we have before the trailer shuts down again until Monday. I still need to upload pictures, so please look for them on the website.

(Later) Well, everything takes longer than it is supposed to. The interface for uploading pictures to the website is limited to 8 pictures per upload, so I was still uploading as our Tech guru Wetherbee was shutting down the trailer. Only have about 280 more pictures to go to get caught up. Sigh. I will try to find a landline (phone hookup) in Jacob Lake on Sunday and Monday, so as to upload this and the other trekker’s journals. There are so many things that I need to do with the website for Team South, and it is frustrating to have networking problems and just general techie glitches. It truly is more of an art than a science, but my education is continuing. Sam is doing such a great job as Food and Beverage Manager (FABM). She is a great cook, and quite inventive. I will get her picture on the web as soon as I can.
