from North Rim at Jacob’s Lake to Steve Ward’s home at Wahweap Marina Lake Powell near Page, AZ
Lake Powell has 1900 miles of shoreline located in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The massive Glen Canyon Dam at the south end has created 186 mile long Lake Powell. Steve Ward met us at Wahweap Marina near Stateline and gave us the dos and don’ts about the houseboat with slid, kitchen, TV, living room, rainbow deck and more J. Steve is an expert on everything about boating, the 96 Canyons and where those fish are residing. He loves his lifelong work and it shows. As our host, we were in the best hands ever. Steve even made it rain, a much needed item, and produced a fabulous double rainbow to be viewed off the upper deck. It was a great few days. Our other guests from Honda Marine, Travis Travnikar & Richard, were explaining the importance of the new Honda motors and the impact on the environment. Our houseboat was equipped with two 50hp Honda Outboards, which give no fumes or noise. Thanks to Honda we were in great shape. One of the luxurious is that the Houseboat has a full kitchen with freezer and oven. I have missed these items and immediately started getting items ready to bake and freeze. It is always best to wait and see what your equipment is and also go and see what the local grocer has to offer before settling on a menu. Page,AZ , the states newest city having been established in 1957 , is located just 6 road miles away and offers a great grocer “Basha’s”. I was able to get the crews next 5 days ready with great fresh fruits, vegetables, and meat at the best prices. The employees were extremely helpful and knowledgeable of items I needed. I was one of 3 million visitors over the last year that ventured into town to purchase items. It was more than a pleasure to be there. So now, loaded with good food…I must get it to the boat….this will be a task but with the help of rolling dollies it will work. Due to the lake being down it was a long roll to the boats. I heard many boaters exclaim that soon the dock would be in the middle. The drought is causing much change at this area. But the parking was full and the boats were running. A beautiful setting surrounded by incredible arches, again colors of earth and rock and water. Email me at samaltman@flash.net
