from Goblin Valley to Torrey, Utah
…the clouds are so low that I must duck to stay below them today…or, is it that the ground is so high???…This morning is gray and cloudy, looking and smelling like rain. … Leaving Goblin Valley in the rain- (As stated before, the rest of the team is still traveling on Lake Powell by boat.) , a full shower pouring on me which leaves traces of waterfalls and changes the color of the deep red/brown earth all around. I haven’t smelled the wet earth in awhile so it is awakening my senses. As I drive on Scenic State Route 24 towards Hanksville and then towards Encalante it is hard to drive the speed limit . I see flags, flags and more flags lining the road. I always drive slower because I am so awestruck by the beauty of the land here. Today I am also reminded of the anniversary of the date. It is a sad time. My thoughts are with those who have suffered due to the happenings. I wish I could take it all away. I can’t, but I can keep sharing information about this great country we live in. So I continue winding around the hugh rocks and experiencing the unbelievable changes. Driving a large full window RV really gives me the best views. In just a short time I have seen what looks like sand piles, miles later on the same road - huge rocks, then beautiful earth and in the middle of nothing a wonderful Organic Market with vegetables and more…then miles later I feel like I am driving at the bottom of the ocean without water and I imagine that the rocks on either side of me once housed incredible fish in the many holes -this is Capitol Reef National Park- so named not because of how it feels to me I later discover, but because early settlers thought it was like a nations capitol due to the natural domes. It boasts of a 100 mile long Waterfold. Imagine…rocks and fruit! What a combination. So I’ve seen Cainsville, the Fremont River, Behunin Cabin. Also, there are orchards inviting visitors to pick-your-own fruit at Fruita Historic District and Petroglyphs. Next The Castle, Chimney Rock and now in Torrey, UT elevation 6,800 ft , at the intersection of Highway 24 & Highway 12 there is a Wonderland Restaurant on the hill…with beautiful blooming flowers, again something that seems new in the last week. Torrey was named after Colonel Torrey from Wyoming who lead the Rough Riders during the Spanish American War. My search continues for the best place to buy the next weeks food supplies…always ask the restaurants that serve good food…like this one , they will know. My answer is Loa just about 12 miles up the road.
