Side Trip to Dinosaur National Monument
Its amazing to wake up in a different place everyday. Today was no exception. I slept out under the stars, well, under a shelter and listened to night sounds and faint water rushing by. The Flaming Gorge is so incredible. Today we have a well deserved day off. I wanted to see the Dinosaur National Monument and I had to have at least two other people with me in order to get permission to go. Stephen and Dana were the victims, I mean volunteers. We drove forever to get to any sort of to get to the base of the Gorge and then more to get to the town of Vernal.

On the way there, the fall colors were screaming with yellows, oranges and browns. As I drive, I am screaming as well, yelling Look! How beautiful! It of course scared Dana and Stephen, but they laughed and started screaming at the beauty as well.

As soon as we left the Gorge, everyone in the car was silent. Finally, Stephen spoke and I feel as though we are cheating were in Utah, almost at the end. And then we saw a sign Salt Lake City 142 miles. We knew it was all going to happen, just not so soon.

Along the highway, there were interpretive signs of what prehistoric stage we were driving through.

Once we got to the National Monument, Dana immediately started giving out our cards and telling them about the journey. It was pretty cool how people reacted to us. This was our first interaction with people who didnt know who we were. All of our other interaction with people was representatives from agencies that knew our mission and understood what we were doing, so we never had to explain ourselves. This time we were on our own.

Dinosaur was amazing, the interpretive exhibits were easy to understand and we go to see the quarry where they are still uncovering more fossils.

What a day! I spent time with two people, I hadn't had a chance to really bond with yet and took away more than an educational experience.
