Team South enters Silver City today, a quaint Victorian town founded during the silver rush of the 1870s. Today, tourism and ranching have supplanted mining as the major industries. Its enviable location in the Gila National Forest makes it a natural base camp for explorations into the Mogollon Cliff Dwellings, the forest wilderness areas and numerous hot springs.

Before Team South ventures north into the wilderness, they'll spend another day in Silver City, attending a roundtable discussion on wilderness issues. Meanwhile, the team will get to enjoy the historic sights of a town that saw everything from Apache raids to Billy the Kid.
