Today Team South is also taking an outfitted pack trip, but they will encounter considerably fewer mosquitos in the dry pines of the Gila National Forest.

This region is dominated by the Mogollon Mountains, named for the ancestral Puebloans who lived here about 600 years ago. As the trekkers ride through the forests to the tundra above treeline, they will be keeping their eyes peeled for elk, mule deer, javelina, and mountain lions.
