Team South Crosses into Arizona
Team South is on an overnight expedition from New Mexico into Arizona, following one of those magical natural lines where one ecosystem transforms into another. At the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau, a huga wall named the Mogollon Rim drops hundreds of feet into the desert. A traveler can pass from a hot and sunny afternoon into the snowy shade of high ponderosa forests within hours.
This is also the area that was devastated a few weeks ago by the Rodeo-Chediski fire, one of the most destructive in Arizona history. The team will be traveling through the forest with a Forest Service guide, primarily on ATVs, but also on foot and by truck.
Today Team South will enjoy a special event at the Alpine Ranger Station, as wildlife experts take up the topic of wolf reintroduction.
