The famous White Mountain Apache chief, Geronimo

Team South will mountain bike the last leg along the Mogollon Rim today, then turn north into the Coconino National Forest, across the Colorado Plateau to the Grand Canyon. This area was the site of a supply trail used by General George Crook during the war against the Apache people.

The team will attend a living history program about the Battle of Big Dry Wash, one of the many chapters of a long and vicious war with the White Mountain and the Chiricahua Apaches, led by such famous chiefs as Geronimo, Victorio, and Nana. The program will be presented by Forest Service employee and local resident James Beard.
