Riding the Continental Divide
Team North continues along the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail on horseback, riding from the trailhead at Nez Perce Creek where they camped last night south to Homestake Lake, just outside of Butte, Montana, in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest.
A hundred years ago, these mountains saw frenzied mining activity, as treasure hunters from all over the world flocked to the Montana gold fields. The route passes by a number of abandoned mines, relics of that heady era. Tonight the Forest Service will present a heritage event so Team North can relive the mythical era of the Wild West, when a man could find a fortune prospecting in the morning, and lose it all in a poker game that night.
