Sightseeing
Team South has spent the night on a houseboat at the Wahweap Matrina on Lake Powell and is now ready to do some sightseeing. The houseboat, courtesy of Aramark Corporation, will be the team's home for the next five nights. Becky Hammond (no relation to Team Leader Bob Hammond)from the BLM's St. George Field Office will show the team some of the magnificent vistas from BLM-managed public lands adjacent to Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. They will visit the Paria Canyon area and on the way they will catch tantalizing glimpses of the southern end of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.

Lake Powell is quiet now--summer's crowds have gone home. The water is still warm and perfect for swimming, especially since the temperatures are still in the 90's. Because of the drought, the water level in Lake Powell has dropped about 30 feet and the lakeside cliffs are marked by a white ring.
