Leaving Arid Lands
Fishlake National Forest, Utah

Driving through the back country of Capitol Reef National Park, Team South will have a last look at the arid lands of the Colorado Plateau. A last look at the red, desert-varnished cliffs, canyons, and sparse vegetation the trekkers have come to love so well. From here on, they will be surounded by greenery as they traverse a succession of high plateaus and mountain ranges, each bringing them closer to to their rendezvous with Team North on September 27.

Leaving Capitol Reef the team enters Fishlake National Forest, named after its largest lake. Fishlake National Forest extends over 1.5 million acres of plateau and mountainous land in south-central Utah between the Colorado River drainage and the Great Basin.
