National Public Lands Day at last! This is our personal favorite holiday, because this is the day that people all over the country give back to our public lands.

The National Environmental Education & Training Foundation started National Public Lands Day several years ago, and since then, the event has grown exponentially. This year, 70,000 volunteers will be making about $8 million worth of improvements at 500 public lands sites, in every state of the nation. Volunteer work includes trail building and restoration, picking up trash, and rehabilitating burned areas. Volunteers are supported by federal, state and local governments, non-profit organizations, and private corporations. If you can't make it to the celebration in Salt Lake City this year, be sure to visit www.npld.com" and click on the US map to find volunteer events near you.
